Hey I'ma girl from London just wondering, what's the application process is like in Britian for getting into a UWC...

What kinda GCSE predicted grades are they looking for too?

Could anyone who applied from Britian please give me some info on how it went for them, and anything else they could tell me, I'll be eternally grateful (no-one knows what I'm talking about at school!)

Thanks smile.gif

(realise this is kinda early for someone who's gonna apply for next year but just trying to get as much info as possible)

Hey!
I was selected from Britain last year and I am now at the UWC in Costa Rica.
Well the process was pretty simple. Im sure youve seen the application form. Well you fill it out as best you can, then give it to your school to fill out the school part and I think they will send it off (its meant to be confidential). Well I was never told how good your grades had to be. All they told me was they needed to be good enough to pass the IB so I guess that means a handful of As Bs and Cs but Im not sure.
After that they choose roughly 100 people to go for interview at Atlantic College in Wales. Its usually in half term and you go for two days. You stay in a dorm room with ACers! I had SUCH a great time there! It was brilliant! There are basically lots of activities during the day and there will be lots of Alumni watching and helping you through them. Then, for me it was in the morning of the next day, you have your interview with a panel of, for me, three people. They just ask you questions. Answer them honestly smile.gif
And then two weeks later I heard the happy news! But it can take a lot longer than that to hear.
I hope this helps!
Im so glad you are deciding to apply! Trust me, its been the best experience of my life so far! Best of luck in applying!
If you have any more questions feel free to ask smile.gif
Love

I'm a first year at Atlantic College and yeah the application process was fine. They don't give a s*** about predicted grades really, as long as you are an interesting person and you are enthusiastic and have interests/hobbies/passions.

The biggest hurdle is the financial one. If you get a place at most of the international UWCs, you will get a good scholarship, but to AC, it's likely that there will be a LOT of ££££££££ involved...

Hi there,

Just to say that selection committees do look at grades, but not only grades. We take a holistic approach, looking at every aspect of the candidate we can in order to make the best decision we can. The advice you've gotten is good - be yourself and try to fill out the application form as best you can. While there may not always be enough money for everyone, we try our best to help everyone attend whatever their circumstances.

Thanks.
