Are will selected for the interview only if we are an "A" grader?
Or being a "B" grader doesn't matter?

Please reply if anyone knows.

Hey karteeka, I am an applicant this year too. From what it says on the Indian NC's web site, the marks are 'pegged at' 85%. not sure how that translates into grades, but hope it helps.

Best of Luck

There's no definite line. They're looking for a mix of good grades and scores, good recommendations, good social service, good extracurricular, good writing, and good personality in the interview. If your grades aren't perfect but you do a TON of something else, that's cool. If you don't do anything else, you'd need better grades. It's not black and white, but if there WAS a definite line, you probably should have at least Bs.

Actually I earlier believed that admission to UWC was a holistic process and if you were exceptionally talented in something, it could supplement the not so stellar grades, but now after reading the FAQ on the Indian NC's web site, I'm not so sure. It looks to me like 85% is the minimum that they expect... any speculations?

What are the criteria for admissions to a UWC?
The UWC Selection Committee looks for well-rounded socially and politically aware young individuals who would thrive in an international environment that the UWCs provide. The academic record in grade 9 & 10 is pegged at 85% and above and the student's co-curricular activities are given considerable weightage.

My guess is that they expect decent grades, and if your grades aren't exceptional they expect you to be good at something else (extracurriculars, community etc). There's nothing to lose by not applying, go for it and see!

Some national committees don't pay any attention to grades whatsoever. Some national committees require a certain pegged grade average. In some countries, you must be the top student in your area to even be considered, and you don't even apply: they find you. It's absolutely different everywhere you look, but they're all looking for a balanced, competent student.
